This was the first icon I created which took me about a month. I did a lot of research in order to stay close to the Greek Orthodox inconography style and use of symbolism. This idea originated from the concept of a graphic novel I am currently working on.

This icon was done right before the release of The Gospel of Judas Iscariot in May 2006. The Gospel is thought to be a 3rd Century document from early Gnostic Christians. I'd been looking forward to this documents release since I learned about it's existence in early 2005.
*A large print of this icon was donated to Dr.Martinus, a Reverand of a Lutheran Church located in Wolfenbuettel, Germany. He believes in the sanctity of Judas Iscariot.

"Mary Magdalene was of royal descent (through the Jewish House of Benjamin) and was the wife of Jesus, of the House of David. That she was a prostitute was slander invented by the Church to obscure their true relationship. At the time of the Crucifixion, she was pregnant. After the Crucifixion, she fled to Gaul, where she was sheltered by the Jews of Marseille. She gave birth to a daughter, named Sarah."
What better subject for an addition to my Unlikely Icon series! This is the 3rd Unlikely Icon which depicts the Holy Family II (Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Sarah). I used various icons of the original Holy Family (Mary, Joseph, and Jesus) as the basis for my icon.
One interesting thing I found in this particular positioning of the Holy Family is that the halos of the adults intersect at each other's center and the mother's halo slightly overlaps the child's halo. The child's dimensions are also exactly half the adults.

ANCIENT ICON DISCOVERED BENEATH CHURCH
March. 2007
An ancient icon dating from the 13th century, depicting an image of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) has been discovered after being hidden for nearly 800 years. Experts say that a find such as this is sure to astonish the religious world and also help to solidify the place of Pastafarianism amongst other major religions.
The FSM icon was recently discovered by Chris LaMonica, a devout follower of the Pastafarian faith, who claims that he was "lead to the holy location by His Noodly Appendage." Mr. LaMonica has decided not to reveal the exact location of the sacred relic in order to ensure it's protection. However, he has disclosed that it is in an underground room beneath an ancient Christian Church and that "it's really dark and kind of scary without proper lighting." Judging by the actions of Christians in the past, Chris LaMonica feels that if he did reveal the location of the icon, they would surely destroy it, claiming the location and even the existence of such artwork as sacrilege.
